Can Poor Posture Cause Back Pain?

Poor posture isn’t always the direct cause of back pain, but it can certainly be a contributing factor.

Our bodies are remarkably adaptable. We can sit, stand or move in less-than-ideal positions for quite some time before discomfort begins. The problem often develops gradually, as certain muscles become overworked while others become weaker or less active.

It’s also worth remembering that there’s no such thing as “perfect posture” all day long. The body benefits far more from regular movement than from trying to hold one position for hours.

If your posture is placing unnecessary strain on your muscles or joints, chiropractic care may help identify these movement patterns and provide practical advice to improve comfort. Small changes, such as adjusting your workstation, varying your position and strengthening specific muscles, often have a bigger impact than people expect.

My goal is never to make patients sit like statues. It’s to help them move well, move often and feel more comfortable throughout the day.
