Can Stress Affect Posture?

It certainly can.

When we’re stressed, we often don’t realise how our bodies respond. Our shoulders begin to lift, our breathing becomes shallower and we may find ourselves sitting in a more rounded or tense position without even noticing.

Over time, these changes can contribute to muscle tension, neck discomfort, headaches and stiffness in the upper back.

Our emotional wellbeing and physical health are closely connected, which is why I always take a whole-person approach when assessing patients.

Along with hands-on treatment, we may talk about simple ways to reduce physical tension, such as regular movement, breathing exercises, stretching and making time to step away from your desk during a busy day.

Sometimes helping your posture starts with helping you slow down.
