Many of us spend a large part of our day sitting, so creating a comfortable workstation can make a real difference.
Ideally, your chair should support your lower back, your feet should rest comfortably on the floor and your computer screen should be positioned at roughly eye level so you’re not constantly looking down or reaching forward.
Your keyboard and mouse should allow your shoulders to stay relaxed, with your elbows close to your body rather than reaching out in front of you.
Perhaps the most important advice I give patients is this: don’t stay still for too long.
Even the best workstation can’t make up for sitting in the same position all day. Standing up for a minute, stretching or taking a short walk every hour helps keep your joints moving and your muscles active.
Comfort, movement and variety are far more important than chasing a perfect sitting position.
