There’s no single sleeping position that’s perfect for everyone, but there are certainly positions that place less strain on the spine.
For many people, sleeping on your back or your side allows the spine to remain in a more neutral position. If you sleep on your side, placing a pillow between your knees may help reduce pressure on the hips and lower back. If you sleep on your back, a small pillow beneath your knees can sometimes improve comfort.
Sleeping on your stomach isn’t necessarily harmful for everyone, but it can place extra rotation through the neck and increase strain on some people.
The most important question isn’t whether you’re sleeping in the “correct” position—it’s whether you’re waking up feeling rested and comfortable.
If you’re regularly waking with pain or stiffness, it’s worth discussing your sleeping habits during your consultation. Often, a few simple adjustments can make a noticeable difference.
