What Is the Difference Between Muscle Soreness and an Injury?

It’s completely normal to feel some muscle soreness after trying a new activity or increasing your training load. This type of soreness usually improves within a day or two.

Pain that is sharp, persistent, causes swelling, limits movement or changes the way you walk, run or lift should be assessed more carefully.

If you’re unsure whether what you’re experiencing is normal or something more serious, it’s always better to have it checked. Early assessment often helps prevent a small problem from becoming a longer-term injury.
