Why Do Joints Pop?

This is probably one of the biggest myths surrounding chiropractic care.

The popping sound isn’t your bones moving back into place.

It’s simply the sound created when pressure changes inside a joint cause tiny gas bubbles within the joint fluid to release. It’s very similar to the sound you hear when cracking your knuckles.

Some joints make this sound during treatment, while others don’t.

Interestingly, whether you hear a pop or not doesn’t determine whether the treatment has been successful. Many effective adjustments produce little or no sound at all.

I always remind patients that the goal of treatment isn’t to create noise. The goal is to restore healthy movement and improve the way your joints function.
